10 Best RV Road Trip Destinations

With 48,000 miles worth of highways, you can guarantee that this country was destined for road trips. Every state offers a variety of popular sightseeing spots along with tourist attractions, whether that be through nature, restaurants, museums, buildings, or any other types of landmarks.

Traveling in itself can be such an adventure, however, if you choose to do so by including a travel trailer, there are many more options and activities to consider. 

Before you venture off to explore the country in your RV, start the preparation by checking out which destinations have RV-friendly areas so that once it’s time to rest or call it a night, there will be no worries about finding a place to stay or looking for full hook-ups.

Arizona: The Grand Canyon

This is a classic, or a staple rather, for touring America. The Grand Canyon is a must-see for your travels. This area is incised by the Colorado River and is a prime example of arid-land erosion.

Break your days up to be able to see as much as you can without getting exhausted and burnt out, especially if you intend to visit in the summer months. The heat in Arizona is one for the books. 

The Grand Canyon has some very nice hiking trails and what better way to hike them with our favorite pair of hiking pants which I recently reviewed.

Alaska- Denali National Park

Wildlife and nature views galore will be found here in Alaska. Sitting at 20,310 feet above sea level, Denali earns the title of the highest peak in all of North America.

Backcountry camping is a popular travel style here, along with mountaineering. 6 million acres of pure greenery and foliage depending on the seasons can assure an amazing time away from reality.

New York: Montauk, Long Island

When you think of New York, the “city” vibes and hustling crowds may be what comes to mind. However, there is just so much more to that, especially for those looking for a scenic trip away from the city.

Montauk offers breathtaking beaches to catch a sunrise or sunset during your travels. This area is also particularly famous for fishing. Be sure to participate in fishing for sport or dig into the fresh seafood here!

Utah: Zion National Park

Zion is known for being one of the best places for canyoneering. Here you’ll find the tallest sandstone cliffs and the remarkable tapering wild canyon.

If you are looking for endless outdoor activities, this may be the place to visit. Hiking, biking, and repelling are just a few of them!

California Wine Country

Whether you are a wine fanatic or not, the Napa and Sonoma regions in wine country will leave a grand impression and not disappoint. Vineyards for miles and over 800 wineries are sure to please the eye and palate.

The cuisine throughout its Michelin star restaurants is a sure plus to add to the experience. Take a trip of relaxing and taste testing, all while enjoying the immaculate views and fresh air.

Florida: Walt Disney World

The most magical place on earth is calling your name! Bring your family and friends to Walt Disney World to relive your childhood or to discover the wild rides, food, and drinks. The Harry Potter world and Hollywood Studios are another part for all ages to explore. Spend the day or long weekend here because this is not one to rush through!

Oklahoma and Missouri: Route 66

Route 66, also known as the “mother road”, is a historic highway in American transportation history. Along this drive, there are many landmarks and popular tourist travel stops, however, these two states are home to true Route 66 treasures.

In Oklahoma, visit the Route 66 Museum located in Elk City, to get a full understanding of how this highway has evolved and all of its historical attributes. The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri is a must-see and to get a picture with! It happens to be near the beginning point of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Maine: Acadia National Park

Consider visiting this stunning national park in the fall and winter months to see the incredible foliage or the crisp and fluffy snow that usually blankets this entire region.

You will find fun trails, of different distances or lengths, to hike and even horseback ride through, windy roads of scenic drives, and all of the common winter activities such as snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

Wyoming: Devils Tower National Monument

Devils Tower happens to be the very first National Monument in the US. This butte is 867 feet from the base to the summit. The national monument shows off some of the Earth’s most impressive and outstanding geological features.

There are more than 150 rock climbing routes that have been established to try out as well for those who enjoy this extreme sport!

Colorado: Mesa Verde National Park

This location is full of history! The Mesa Verde is well known for its Native American culture and the Ancestral Puebloan ruins and cliff dwellings, which were the main reason for instituting this national park, which is to preserve them.

You’ll find yourself appreciating the archaeological sites and overlooks along with unbelievable panoramic canyon views.
